While often heard remarking that he is originally from “Planet Earth,” Fernando was almost born and absolutely raised in Austin, Texas. After attaining degrees in Geography and Government from UT Austin, there was nothing left for Fernando except to join a group of recent graduates in an effort to map vulnerable sections of the Amazon jungle in eastern Ecuador. Following his brief stint as a cartographer’s assistant, Fernando wound up wondering extensively throughout his mother’s native Mexico, which eventually led him to accept a tour leader position with Trek America. In mid-2007, after spending the winter guiding snowmobiles and managing a start-up ski delivery service in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Fernando decided to try his luck in China. At VariArts, Fernando has played an influential role throughout the entire company, especially in matters regarding compliance with international standards. Fernando currently heads the sales efforts for the company’s Themed Travel Division.
